In this workshop we will explore the various phases of the gait (walking) cycle and what the skeletal connections are for each of these phases. We will also review some of the common errors in walking and present movement cues that guide you toward a more biomechanically sound version of your gait, leading to easier, more efficient, more comfortable walking. Since running is walking with increased speed, these concepts can translate to running as well.

In this workshop we will practice getting up from the floor without the use of furniture, using a technique designed to reduce pressure on the knees and back. We will practice moving from flat on the back, to rolling to your side, from your side to hands and knees, before coming to upright standing. This sequence requires a variety of movements common to daily living and having this skill promotes independence and confidence. Whether you want to get down on the floor with the grandchildren or if you have concerns about your ability to get off the floor following a fall, this workshop can help.
